When people realise that they have put on weight, generally their first reaction is to eat less food. To eat less calories is a first simple step to weight loss. Over indulging is why people put on weight in the first place.
Many diets concur that to lose weight we need to eat less than the energy that we burn. Where diets go wrong in this instance is due to people consuming too little calories. The human body has been able to adapt to going without food and living off fat reserves. This means that whilst we know if we eat less we will lose weight, but when the body is subjected to the extremes of starvation, it will over compensate by forcing us to slow down and therefore, use less energy. If the lack of food we receive is too low we will become and feel lethargic. When the body is forced in to a state of survival, we feel ill and our moods can become low. We feel like we have no energy and in fact our energy levels will decrease so that our bodies perform at a much slower pace.
The conclusion of this means that although we are eating less calories, we are using less energy and the weight loss we desired is hugely affected, with minimal results if any? If we carry on consuming too little calories than our body requires, eventually organs will shut down leading to a devastating outcome.
To achieve success with weight loss, we need to have a sensible outlook. The weight we have gained has taken a time to build up and not just happened overnight. Unfortunately, the weight we need to lose is not going to miraculously disappear overnight either. We need to set realistic goals that are achievable, lowering calories is a good start as long as it is not taken to the extreme. Cutting calories and introducing exercise in to your diet regime is a positive step. Losing small regular amounts of weight is much better for your physical and mental well-being. Weight loss success will be yours, just be prepared to give yourself the time to achieve your goal.
